Upside Down Eyeliner

Every once in awhile, a new makeup technique comes along that totally turns things upside down. In this case, a little more literally. Upside down eyeliner is our new favorite trend that puts all the focus on the bottom lashline, with eye popping results. And don’t be afraid to experiment with a bold new shade—a shot of color right under your eyes is like a double espresso for any sleep deprived dark circles. Just make sure you’re using the right arsenal of longwearing, smudge resistant products to avoid unwanted raccoon eye side effects. Here’s how to get the look.

Step 1: Put top lids in neutral.
This look may be all about the lower lids, but you can’t leave your top lids completely bare. Apply a wash of neutral, sheer eye shadow and a little black eyeliner to balance everything out and make the bold color going on your lower lids really pop.

Step 2: Line lower lashline.
Line your lower lashline with Quickliner for Eyes Intense in Intense Midnight. This easy-to-wield pencil glides on effortlessly without any tugging or skipping along the delicate undereye area. Use the smudge tip to gently soften the line. After 30 seconds, this liner won’t budge for anything (except Take The Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips).

Step 3: Intensify with eye shadow.
Amp up the color intensity by layering a matching eye shadow over the liner. Use the Eye Contour Brush to sweep All About Shadow in Deep Dive along your lower lashline. Keep the shadow concentrated close to the lashline—you don’t want the effect to get too smoked-out, which may enhance any dark undereye circles.

Step 4: Boost your bottom lashes.
Subtly define your top lashes with one coat of Lash Power Mascara Long-Wearing Formula, but give your bottom lashes an extra dose of drama using two coats of Bottom Lash Mascara. It has a genius micro-mini wand to catch each and every tiny little lash, even the hard-to-reach ones in the corners of your eyes. The formula is also smudge, flake and humidity resistant and stays put for up to 24 hours, so you won’t have to worry about it falling down your cheek midday.
